School/classroom field trips take place on three levels. A monthly, earned field trip is available to students who are making significant progress and have met both the academic and non-academic programming criteria. Other classroom trips are taken during the school year as a culmination project for an educational unit.
During the extended school year session, varied field trips take place encompassing community-integration activities, vocational exploration, educational adventures, and recreational trips. Three prerequisites for field trip participation are maintained: (1) Students must have had no incidents of physical aggression during the course of the month for the regular school year and 48 hours for the extended school year. (2) Students must wear the school sanctioned T-shirt on the day of the trip. (3) A field trip permission slip must be signed by the student’s parent/guardian and returned to the school prior to the field trip. Students who do not meet all three criteria will not be permitted to attend the field trip.
